Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti distributes Artificial limbs free of cost to those in dire need of such support. Today Jaipurfoot is the most widely used prosthesis foot in the world. The beauty of the Prosthetic foot is its lightness and mobility - those who wear it enables amputees to walk, run, trek, swim, squat, sit cross-legged, walk on uneven terrain, work in wet muddy fields, climb trees, and pedal bicycles.
BMVSS tries to help all categories of disabled. However, its focus is on the poor disabled who remain deprived of limbs, aids, and appliances under the existing unaffordable health care system. We provide two types of Prosthesis: Below - Knee Prosthesis and Above - Knee Prosthesis.
Above-Knee Prosthesis
The BMVSS Above-knee prosthesis is designed indigenously. It is fabricated from locally manufactured high-quality, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes. The sockets which are used are both ischial bearing and ischial containment types. The knee joints are available in a variety of designs like Single-axis knee joint with lock, Single-axis knee joint without lock, Stanford-Jaipur Knee, and Stanford-Jaipur Knee with lock. In most patients, the Stanford Knee joint is replacing other joint designs.
Below-Knee Prosthesis
The BMVSS Below Knee Prosthesis has been indigenously designed. The shank is manufactured from locally produced, durable, high-quality, high-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE). The socket design used is either total contact, vacuum-formed using a polypropylene sheet, or open-ended, using HDPE. It is fitted with a specially made shank/socket Jaipur Foot. A functional below-the-knee prosthesis looks more like a normal limb, allowing the range of motion needed for normal human locomotion. The total contact socket provides superior sensory feedback to the wearer and prevents edema.
