Most of the work of BMVSS is done at its 24 permanent centers, as part of the outreach program, BMVSS normally holds about 50 on-the-spot Limb/Caliper
fitment camps in a year in different districts and remote areas of India. For these camps, the technicians carry equipment and materials in hired trucks or
they go in the mobile workshops of BMVSS. These teams' set-up temporary workshops at the campsites where the patients turn up with the support of local
organizers and get the limbs.
In these camps, apart from Artificial Limbs/Calipers, sometimes Hand-Pedalled Tricycles, wheelchairs, and crutches are also given according to the
requirements of the grantees/donors.
Normally, limbs/calipers are given the same day or in the next one or two days unless the cases are complicated.
These camps in India are financially supported by either the Government of India or, in some cases, by private donors.
Camps of BMVSS are different from those organized by other institutions in general, in the sense that the camps of BMVSS are one-stop facilities
and the patients who come are measured and their custom-made limb/caliper is/are fabricated and fitted, without making them visit again a second time as
done by most of the other organizations.
