Polio is a major problem in India and is one of the main cause of locomotor  disability. The disability resulting from Polio is greatly aggravated by deformities.  Patient with severe deformities of both limbs cannot stand, walk and this greatly  restricts their living and social activities.

The correction of deformities using surgical procedures followed by fitment of an assistive device known as Caliper can significantly change the life of Polio affected.

The BMVSS has been providing Polio corrective essential surgery services to  polio-affected  patients, and upto 31st March 2007, 6,366 surgeries have been  undertaken.
